Scott Flanary (LinkedIn) is a recruiter for Moss Adams LLP in the Los Angeles office. He’s a Harvard grad with a very interesting background working in college campus administration and now Moss Adams.
Scott’s has been working for the firm hiring accounts from campuses for two years. He knows the in’s and out’s of what recruiters across firms are looking for and we got together for a little chat.
We got a chance to speak about EVERYTHING that recruiters are looking for if they’re going to hire you. I’m not going to lie, I even learned a few things (like how much recruiters care about cover letters!)
Here are some of the areas we covered:
How does Scott evaluate cover letters?
What are the major pitfalls of accounting students in the recruiting process?
How does he view work experience, GPA, and leadership experience in order of importance?
What is the best way to get in touch with him?
Can you get hired by Moss Adams even if they don’t hire on your campus? (Hint: YES!)
What is the hiring process at Moss Adams from Summer Leadership Conferences to Full-Time jobs?
Can you get started on your accounting career in your freshmen year?
What’s the difference between campus and experienced hire recruiting?
Have a question for Scott? I recommend you reach out to him directly via email (P.S. he offered it as part of the podcast!)
One thing I try to hammer home time and again is that you don’t have to wait for an open position to appear, OR for firms to come to your campus. Reach out to them! As Scott mentioned on the podcast, that initiative can be attractive as part of your recruiting story!
