Accounting Movies Worth Watching, The Bean Counter’s Have Spoken

Last week I asked the wonderful members of our Bean Counter community about their favorite accounting movies worth watching:

The results are in. I’m most interested in #9!

1. Hitch

Summary: While helping his latest client woo the fine lady of his dreams, a professional “date doctor” finds that his game doesn’t quite work on the gossip columnist with whom he’s smitten.

2. Shawshank Redemption

Summary: Two imprisoned men bond over a number of years, finding solace and eventual redemption through acts of common decency.

3. The Other Guys

Summary: Two mismatched New York City detectives seize an opportunity to step up like the city’s top cops whom they idolize — only things don’t quite go as planned.

4. The Producers

Summary: After putting together another Broadway flop, down-on-his-luck producer Max Bialystock teams up with timid accountant Leo Bloom in a get-rich-quick scheme to put on the world’s worst show.

5. Office Space

Summary: Three company workers who hate their jobs and decide to rebel against their greedy boss.

6. While more finance, fraud is relevant: Wolf of Wall Street

Summary: Based on the true story of Jordan Belfort, from his rise to a wealthy stock-broker living the high life to his fall involving crime, corruption and the federal government.

7. Look Who’s Talking

Summary: After a single, career-minded woman is left on her own to give birth to the child of a married man, she finds a new romantic chance in a cab driver. Meanwhile the point-of-view of the newborn boy is narrated through voice over.

8. Stranger than fiction

Summary: An IRS auditor suddenly finds himself the subject of narration only he can hear: narration that begins to affect his entire life, from his work, to his love-interest, to his death.

9. Deception

Summary: An accountant is introduced to a mysterious sex club known as The List by his lawyer friend. But in this new world, he soon becomes the prime suspect in a woman’s disappearance and a multi-million dollar heist.

10. Enron: The Smartest Guys in the Room

Summary: A documentary about the Enron corporation, its faulty and corrupt business practices, and how they led to its fall.

11. The Untouchables

Summary: Federal Agent Eliot Ness sets out to stop Al Capone; because of rampant corruption, he assembles a small, hand-picked team.

12. Date Night

Summary: In New York City, a case of mistaken identity turns a bored married couple’s attempt at a glamorous and romantic evening into something more thrilling and dangerous.
