I was a weak applicant compared to others since my GPA wasn’t strong. This time around, I have a stronger GPA, hands-on accounting experience, I’m in a Master’s program and I’ve passed one part of the CPA. Never give up!

I have read your article – “22 Reasons You Won’t Find A Job This Fall”. I guess I got rejected because of #8 and #9. As far as I know, most of the interviewers would ask behavior questions during the interview. However, I have also encountered a situation that the partner did not ask me any behavior questions. It was only a causal conversation. And there was couple of times that we were in the ‘dead-air’ moment. It was an really awkward situation but I did not know how to keep the conversation going. I guess this is also one of the reasons to explain why I got rejected.

I am seeking advice for the interview. A lot of times when I asked the recruiter / professionals how can I prepare for the interview, they usually reply to me as “Be personal, be yourself”. So under the situation as I mentioned above, how should I handle it?

-Your timing to start didn’t work for the firm
– The office you chose didn’t have a need
– You happened to have a bad interview with someone
– The culture wasn’t a fit at the time (maybe you’ve matured)
– You don’t have a good GPA
– You don’t have work experience
– You aren’t involved on campus
– You could also – just plain suck

Are you saying, once you land the interview, it’s all about how the interview goes?
